Introduction to Iron Oxide Desulfurization Technology

Gas dry desulfurization technology was applied early. The earliest dry desulfurization technology applied to gas was iron oxide desulfurization technology using bog iron ore as a desulfurizer. In recent years, the quality of iron oxide desulfurizers has made great progress.

The main mechanism of iron oxide desulfurization is catalysis, oxidation and adsorption. When feed gas containing H2S passes through the iron oxide bed, an exothermic reaction occurs under normal pressure and is catalytically oxidized to sulfur ions on the surface of the iron oxide. The product is adsorbed by the iron oxide to achieve the purpose of desulfurization.

After running for a period of time, if the outlet of the desulfurization tower is close to the design value, it means that the tower packing is saturated and loses its desulfurization capacity, and needs to be replaced. When replacing, close the air inlet valve and purge the desulfurization tower with nitrogen until the gas test is qualified, open the cleaning port and the venting port to regenerate the packing. After regeneration, open the manhole and the discharge hole to replace the packing.

The iron oxide desulfurization and regeneration reaction process is as follows:

Desulfurization process:

Fe 2 O 3 ·H 2 O+3H 2 S==Fe 2 S 3 ·H 2 O+3 H 2 O+5.2 kcal

Regeneration process

2Fe 2 S 3 ·H 2 O +3 O 2 ==2Fe 2 O 3 ·H 2 O +6S+94.2 kcal

If the gas contains O 2 , when O 2 /H 2 S>2.5 ,the desulfurization regeneration reaction can achieve continuous regeneration, the above reaction formula is combined into:

 

Fe 2 O 3 ·H 2 O

2H 2 S+ O 2 =========2H 2 O+2S

 

The regeneration of iron oxide desulfurizer is an exothermic process. If the regeneration is too fast and the heat is released violently, the desulfurizer will easily catch fire and burn. The regeneration temperature must be well controlled.

Natural gas processing is the process of removing water vapor, hydrogen sulfide, mercaptan, and carbon dioxide from natural gas. The main equipment includes dehydration unit, desulfurization unit, decarbonization unit, and light hydrocarbon recovery unit.
